Inside Out: A Model for Teaching Emotional Development
The Disney Pixar movie, Inside Out, welcomes us into the mind of a young girl, Riley, as she makes the harrowing developmental transition from latency to pre-adolescence. The themes presented in the movie provide a unique opportunity to teach about emotional development, targeting numerous learning styles and using a number of active learning techniques. Attendees participate in a guided discussion of the movie as a model for teaching about emotional development in a pre-adolescent; organize an educational activity to optimize learning from a movie; evaluate whether this is an effective educational experience; and create an educational tool based on the movie for their own clinical practice environment
