Workshop (ticket)
From Snapchat to Snap Judgements: The Ethics of Personal and Professional Online Personas
Social media and online communication is rapidly expanding, and children and adolescents are early adopters. As professionals and providers, child and adolescent psychiatrists must be adept at navigating social media, managing their online presence, and dealing with professionalism breaches that may arise within the context of their education and practice. This workshop familiarizes participants with existing guidelines for online professionalism, social media use, blogging, and other expressive media available via the Internet. Participants view examples of professionalism breaches, judge their severity, and are provided with possible solutions to address online professional misconduct personally, with patients, and with colleagues. Participants also have an opportunity to practice these skills, receive feedback, and get answers about how to incorporate the concepts learned in their practice or home institution.
