Clinical Consultation Breakfast (ticket)
Master Clinician: Melissa P. DelBello, MD, MS: Diagnosing and Treating Bipolar Disorder in Youth in the Age of DSM-5
Bipolar disorder has a prevalence of 2-3% and most commonly presents during adolescence. While the number of evidence-based treatment options has increased, most patients do not respond to or tolerate their initial medication trial. This breakfast will be hosted by Dr. Melissa DelBello, Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Cincinnati, whose expertise is in treating and researching children and adolescents with and at risk for developing bipolar disorders. During this session, we will use clinical case examples to discuss diagnostic considerations for youth with bipolar disorder, in the context of DSM-5. We will also consider individualized and evidence-based strategies to maximize efficacy and minimize poor adherence and tolerability in this population. Participants are encouraged to bring challenging cases for presentation and discussion.
