Master Clinician: John Piacentini, MD: Behavioral Management of Tic and Related Disorders
John Piacentini, PhD, is Professor and Director of the Center for Child Anxiety, Resilience, Education and Support (CARES) at the UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior where he also directs the Child Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Anxiety and Tic Disorders Program. His research focuses on the development and evaluation of treatments, primarily cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and treatment mechanisms for children with OCD spectrum, anxiety, and tic disorders. He has been Principal Investigator for several National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)-funded treatment studies for the treatment of anxiety and Tourette's disorder. Through the UCLA Child OCD, Anxiety, and Tic Disorders Clinic, which he also directs, he has provided training in evidenced-based therapy to well over 200 child and adult psychiatry and psychology trainees and conducts additional trainings on this topic all over the world. During this session, using clinical cases evidence-based behavioral strategies to manage Tics, particularly Tourette’s disorder will be discussed. Participants are encouraged to bring challenging cases for presentation and discussion.
