MEDIA THEATRE are 2-3 hours in duration. Feature length motion pictures, commercially-released documentaries, videotapes produced by members, music, and other forms of media relevant to any area of child and adolescent psychiatry may be submitted. Submissions must clearly demonstrate significant educational merit to be accepted.

The Program Committee generally receives more Media Theatre submissions than it is able to fit into the program schedule. Submissions are accepted in part based on their anticipated interest, relevance to the field, timeliness, and the clarity of detail provided as to how discussion will be structured and facilitated following the presentation.

As a condition of acceptance, it is the responsibility of the presenter to obtain appropriate releases to show the media at the meeting. Reasonable charges that are necessary to obtain the screening release will be covered on request by AACAP. Only American format media can be shown. If submitting an electronic copy of the film to the Program Committee instead of a DVD, please be clear on how the reviewers are to view this (i.e. Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, etc.). Cost to review electronic submissions should be covered by the person submitting the proposal. Please email meetings@aacap.org if you have any questions.

Please note that the review process for Media Theatre presentations is especially time consuming. Submissions received early are appreciated. All accepted submissions must display full disclosure slides to the audience. Up to 15 Media Theatre spaces are available.

Questions regarding Media Theatre can be directed to the Program Committee’s Media Theatre Coordinator, Caroly Pataki, MD, at cpataki@mednet.ucla.edu.

The following information is required:

  • The title of the submission
  • The chair’s organization and email address
  • Educational learning objectives
  • One Review Abstract for the entire Media Theatre presentation
  • One NON-RETURNABLE copy of the movie (DVD) or other media, or link to electronic copy*
  • Screening release from the copyright owner*
  • Indication of the expected length of the program (including length of media plus time for discussion)
  • Each co-presenter's, discussant's, and co-author’s name, organization, contact information, email address, and disclosure of affiliations
  • Media Theatre programs do not require a Proceedings Abstract.

* AACAP will cover reasonable costs for screening releases. If there is a cost, please do not pay it until after you have heard if the submission has been accepted. If accepted, you will receive instructions about how to proceed. The copy of the movie or documentary and the screening release form (assuming there is no cost for the release) should be mailed to AACAP no later than February 13, 2020.

VERY IMPORTANT: Please note that the DVD will not be returned to submitter. Please plan to obtain another copy of the DVD to be used during the session, if the submission has been accepted.
