Please read this information in its entirety before proceeding to the submission site. It will help you to prepare a complete and accurate submission.

Poster Begin a submission

POSTER sessions are 2 hours in duration. Posters are the format of choice for data-rich research or clinical reports. Posters that have been accepted in the past have been hypothesis driven, not just descriptive. They have included data tables, data graphs, and suitable statistical tests. AACAP will not accept submissions that do not include complete data analysis, even if completion is expected to be completed by the October meeting. Single case or N=1 presentations and small case series (N<10) will not be considered.  Use the Clinical Case Conference format instead for case presentations.

Acceptance of a poster for presentation is an honor, and it holds the same status as any other Annual Meeting presentation. In addition to offering an opportunity for clear and detailed presentation of the data, there is a greater opportunity for interaction and discussion between the author and interested attendees.

For poster submissions, only the proceedings abstract is necessary. When preparing the poster proceedings abstract, include appropriate descriptions of the study’s purpose and main hypotheses, research design and method of diagnostic ascertainment, study sample size, pertinent statistical tests with the value of test statistics, degrees of freedom, p values, effect sizes and/or confidence intervals on main findings, and a summary of the study’s clinical implications, limitations, and conclusions. Literature reviews may be submitted, but must clearly state 1) the need for the review and specific question it intends to address, 2) specific databases and keywords employed, 3) listing of number of articles identified and/or sample size, 3) a clear description of the analytic strategy, 4) quantification of the results, and 5) a concise summary of how the review raises new hypotheses or adds to existing literature.

AACAP encourages presenters to consider unique, less traditional formats for poster presentations. For example, consideration of formatting a poster highlighting take-home points (conclusion) of the study while providing methodology and data presentation in a less central manner may enhance the experience for those attending poster sessions. For an example of a novel approach to developing posters, please view this video

Deadlines:

There are two Poster deadlines: February 13, 2020 and June 4, 2020. The second opportunity is only for Posters with data available after the February submission deadline. Primary Authors present data in tabular or graphic form on an 8 ft. long by 4 ft. high poster board or smaller. Approximately 400 poster presentations are available.

Data Blitz and Research Pipeline Submission Options:

The Data Blitz is 2.5 hours in duration and allows early career investigators with compelling pilot data the opportunity to present their work within a structured symposium format, which includes engagement with senior researcher discussants.  Investigators interested in consideration for this option, in lieu of a poster presentation, should check the appropriate box in the submission form (Step 1).

The Research Pipeline is 2.5 hours in duration and provides an option for presentation of findings from recently completed government, foundation, industry-sponsored and other source funded trials within a structured oral presentation format.  Topics may include, but are not limited to, new pharmaceutical, device, diagnostic, and biotechnology data. In lieu of a poster presentation, submissions accepted for the Research Pipeline will be presented within a structured symposium format that includes the opportunity for formal questions and answers and commentary from senior discussants. Investigators interested in consideration for this option, in lieu of a poster presentation, should check the appropriate box in the submission form (Step 1).

Submissions not selected for the Data Blitz or Research Pipeline will still receive full consideration for acceptance as Posters.

CME credit is not provided for attendance at Poster or Research Pipeline sessions.  However, any source of funding for studies presented must be disclosed with presenters’ conflicts of interest in the submission and included on the final poster. Data Blitz presentations are eligible for CME credit.

Questions regarding Posters can be directed to the Program Committee’s New Research Poster Subcommittee Chair, Tom Fernandez, MD, at thomas.fernandez@yale.edu.

The following information is required:

  • The title of the submission
  • The Primary Author's contact information and email address
    • There can be no more than 2 Primary Authors listed on a Poster
  • Educational learning objectives
  • Proceedings Abstract
    • Proceedings Abstract is the 2,000-character abstract that is used for publication in the Annual Meeting Scientific Proceedings Book
  • Each additional Author's name, affiliation, contact information, email address, and disclosure of affiliations

Please note the following additional guidelines:

  • Case series (Minimal N=10) will be considered but must include detailed, rigorous quantitative measures that support interpretations and conclusions. Unique N=1 presentations with exceptional educational potential should be submitted as a Clinical Case Conference (not as a Poster.)
  • Analyses should generally be complete. Submissions that only promise future data analyses in time for the meeting without clear information about the study, current enrollment and anticipated completed enrollment about the study will not be considered.
  • Literature Reviews – if you are considering submitting a literature review, please view the following article, Ten Simple Rules for Writing a Literature Review, before submitting.
