EXTENDED WORKSHOP Session Length: 6-8 hours Number of Presenters: 1-4 SESSION FORMAT An Extended Workshop provides additional time and opportunity to master evidence based therapeutic interventions beyond what is possible in the standard three (3)-hour Workshop. They should address the theory, evidence-base, and clinical skills relevant to the program topic, and provide sufficient opportunity to learn and practice associated techniques. GUIDELINES An Extended Workshop should follow these guidelines in order to be considered by the Program Committee for the 2024 Annual Meeting program:
STANDARD ROOM SETUP & AUDIO/VISUAL EQUIPMENT PROVIDED An Extended Workshop will be in a room set up with round tables to facilitate hands-on and group learning. A podium and head table will be provided for presenters. If accepted, AACAP will provide a screen and a projector for this session type. Microphones are provided based on room size. Additional AV requests will be considered but cannot be guaranteed. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS Each submission for an Extended Workshop should include the following items:
CONTENT ADDRESSING DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION AACAP has a strong commitment to promoting mental health equity and combating health disparities. We support cultural competency efforts that enable practitioners to care effectively for patients from diverse cultures, groups, and communities. Each presentation MUST include relevant information on differences in prevalence, diagnosis, and treatment pertaining to diverse racial and ethnic populations and/or consider other ways of infusing diversity, equity and inclusion principles into the proposal in other ways. This may include selecting diverse presenters, including participants with lived experience, using the backdrop of Seattle to the benefit of the program, or many other ways that reflect AACAP’s values. If information is not available or if the presenters’ research does not include this information, speakers should address limitations of current research data in addressing needs of minoritized groups. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Extended Workshops are ticketed events. Attendance is limited to between 30-40 participants in addition to the presenter(s). Successful submissions will clearly describe the program agenda with a precise outline of how the day will be organized. They will provide clear educational goals and indicate how the Extended Workshop will achieve these goals. They will also clearly specify the roles and contributions of each presenter. Each submission must provide a clear description of the method of teaching that will be used as well as a specific description of teaching materials (e.g. video clips, evidence-based treatment manuals, handouts, rating scales, etc.). Submissions should include a brief description of or reference to the scientific evidence for and limitations of the treatment technique. To help defray the costs of providing handout materials to participants, the Program Chair may claim up to $125 for reimbursement (upon submitting receipts for approval). In addition, presenters will also be able to upload their presentation materials to AACAP's website before the meeting for registered participants. All accepted submissions must display full disclosure slides to the audience during the live session. START YOUR SUBMISSION AACAP will accept approximately eight (8) Extended Workshops sessions this year. All Extended Workshops must submit a complete proposal each year to be considered for the scientific program at the Annual Meeting.
