Workshop 8 (sold out)
The Maudsley Hospital UK: Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Depression In Children and Young People
Despite advances in treatment, depression remains an enduring and recurrent disorder, with 40 percent of children and young people experiencing a relapse within two years. There is clearly a need to increase our understanding of this disorder and to develop effective treatments to reduce the frequency and duration of depression in this population. This Workshop provides information about current evidence-based treatments, with a focus on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Existing protocols are reviewed and the specific CBT developed at the Maudsley Mood Disorder Clinic for Children and Young People is presented using case studies and routine outcome data. Participants benefit from a better understanding of the presentation and assessment of depression in children and adolescents, knowing current evidence-based treatment and existing treatment guidelines, and learning about the use of CBT, especially the specific CBT offered at the Maudsley Mood Disorder Clinic, as a treatment protocol.
