Workshop 9 (sold out)
Understanding Learning Disabilities: Implications for Psychiatric Practice
Child and adolescent patients often present with complex psychiatric and learning disorders. It is important that the child and adolescent psychiatrist have a solid understanding of the characteristics and presentation of learning disorders and their effect on behavior, processing, and functioning. This Workshop presents the various types of learning disabilities and the interplay between learning and psychiatric disorders. Participants gain a basic understanding of the psychoeducational diagnostic process and learn to critically evaluate the content, conclusions, and recommendations presented and how to integrate that information into the treatment process. Participants also gain a better understanding of the collaborative process necessary to translate the integrated assessment into effective treatment planning and service provision.
