Workshop 39 (ticket)
The Core Curriculum for Child Trauma: Expediting the Acquisition of Professional Expertise in Trauma-Focused Intervention
The Core Curriculum on Childhood Trauma (CCCT) was developed by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network to assist practitioners who work with traumatized children and adolescents to develop an empathic understanding, from the child’s perspective, of the nature of a traumatic experience and the ways in which these experiences may pervasively influence the child’s life; as well as provide traumatized children and families with effective, individually-tailored mental health services. After attending this Workshop, participants are able to describe the basic elements of the CCCT, understand the primary aims of the CCCT as a tool to more effectively work with trauma-exposed youth and their families; describe how the CCCT makes use of principles of active learning to facilitate the development of professional knowledge and skills, and know how the core curriculum enhances the learner’s understanding of the roles that developmental processes and cultural influences play in treating trauma-exposed children and adolescents.
