The Autism Mental Status Exam: Training and Reliability Workshop
The Autism Mental Status Exam (AMSE), developed at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, is a brief diagnostic observational assessment tool that structures the way we observe and record social, communicative, and behavioral functioning in people with autism spectrum disorders (ASD).  The AMSE comprises eight operationalized items, which include: eye contact, interest in others, pointing skills, language, pragmatics, stereotypy, preoccupations, and sensitivities. Participants in this Workshop receive training in the use of the AMSE and demonstrate improved inter-rater reliability in their use of the AMSE as reflected in their scoring of the AMSE after viewing video vignettes using a live audience response system.
