Short Term 12 is an award winning feature film written and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who based the film on his experience working at a group home with adolescents while in college. The film explores the challenges faced by Grace and Mason, formerly at-risk youth themselves, as they serve as mentors, surrogate parents, wardens, and friends to the adolescents in their care at a group home. Attendees better understand the challenges surrounding multi-disciplinary care within a group home, explore the importance of the reparative attachment relationship with clients who have experienced abuse and neglect, discuss the systemic deficiencies of the child welfare system, and critic the portrayal of mental health providers on film.
