Teaching Psychodynamic Psychotherapy: Engaging and Forming a Therapeutic Alliance with Children, Adolescents, and Their Parents
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a core competence in child and adolescent psychiatry residency training. This session provides a much-needed opportunity for clinical faculty teaching and supervising psychodynamic child and adolescent psychotherapy to share experiences and discuss means to utilize effective approaches to teaching and supervising this competency. Participants are introduced to the child attachment interview, the adherence scales of mentalizing-based treatment, and the therapist’s stance as tools to focus residents on the skills and attitudes needed to assess children, adolescents, and families and to achieve effective therapeutic engagement.
